AC 20-40 Report
I was down in AC from Friday to Sunday playing 20-40 hold'em. A couple of observations:
1. Friday night I played 20-40 at the Taj. I got right into a must-move game that was feeding two main games. At around 1 am, they opened a new 20-40 table. For some brain-dead reason, they made this new game a must-move into our game, and kept our table as a must-move into the other two games. The Taj generally does not do this type of daisy-chain must-move. Perhaps they thought the new table would break quickly as players left. That didn't happen. Morever, the floorperson (whom I had never seen before) was completely overwhelmed and couldn't move people from table to table. Sometimes she would just vanish for substantial periods, and there wouldn't be a floorperson in sight. This floorperson also made an incorrect ruling at my table. A player made a clear string bet that was called by the dealer (not the players), and the floorperson overruled the dealer and allowed the player to raise. When the "new" must-move table finally broke around 3 am, the flooperson spent 20 minutes counting the rack of the now empty table, leaving no one to fill seats as players left the main games. This kind of overall chaos is what keeps people from playing at the Taj. If they don't increase their floor staffing, I think they'll be crushed when the Borgata expands. 2. On Saturday I decided to go the Borgata, because I wanted to use my comp dollars on decent food. People who ask about game selection need to remember that a lot can depend on short-term visitors. The 20-40 game I played in had two horrible players whom I had never seen before. Maybe they'll be back, maybe not, but the game was great. 3. On Sunday, I stopped at the Taj around 4 pm. They had one 20-40 table going, and they couldn't start a second one, even though they called down a list of ten players. I then got on a jitney to the Borgata, where there were 3 20-40 tables running. Again, the games were good. I got moved from a must-move table to main game, and I noticed that the two horrible players from Saturday were sitting at the other main game. I didn't feel like dealing with the variance of one of the bad players (who was a maniac), so I stayed put. I've always been an advocate of the 20-40 games at the Taj, but this weekend the Borgata 20-40 games were very good. In addition, the Taj's poor management makes it a very frustrating place to play. |

Re: AC 20-40 Report
I talked to a couple Borgata regulars this weekend who had never been to the Taj before. They were raving about the Taj floor in comparison to the Borgata floor. I think your experience was isolated, I think the Taj floor is pretty capable. I don't have any allegience either way personally I think I'll be at the Borgata exclusively once the new room opens, especially if there is a 10-20 HOE or 20 O8B.

Re: AC 20-40 Report
Meh, I take anything anyone says with a grain of salt. A bunch of commerce regulars were saying how much better Foxwoods is run compared to their room.

Re: AC 20-40 Report
I agree with this. Though Borg is nicer, the floor at Taj is usually better in terms of handling must moves, starting new games that actually go, maintaining the list, filling seats, etc. Must be a new floor.

Re: AC 20-40 Report
I had never seen this floorperson before. She was new to the high side of the room, at the very least. You are probably spoiled inside the high limit rail, but you have to admit that there are times you can look clear across the room and not see a single floorperson.

Go to Casino Rama, you'll love the joint. The environment you seek is not possible in A.C.
