At the end of his prayer, GetThere made the sign of a cross with two powerful, deliberate cuts of his right hand directly over Mets’s chest, and Hell broke loose. Mets erupted into an unearthly wail and the storm outside intensified. The store shook and creaked under the assault of wind and dust, and then all grew quiet again. Mets fell to the ground, and appeared to be dead until they heard him speak in a pained whisper. Thank you; thank you. Mets’s spirit had been saved, but his body was wasted.
