Default Top Canadian Currency Mutual Funds

Any Canadian investors wanna chime in on where they put their dollars?

If it helps, I am 31 and as such am willing to play the riskier side of the market. If there are a few good funds out there that you would recommend, please let me know how you feel the risk exposure to each is.

In addition, if their are additional considerations I am not raising, or more information that is needed before answering this question, let me know.

Thanks!

Hi jackdaniels.

I'm ~90% stock/income trust, but I might suggest having a look at:

iShares (XMA) materials sector index: http://tinyurl.com/ejxpw -- it's moving upward in a hurry lately and at an historic high, so this depends on your opinion of the market. Don Coxe is still very bullish about this sector. Jeff Rubin has recently made his prediction about the future direction of the TSX. But you know what they say about opinions, and lots of people are more cautious or calling for a large correction. FWIW, I think Canada is going to continue to be strong, but there are sure to be some dips which might allow you to pick up something like XMA at a better price.

I'm massively weighted in the Canadian market. My global equity is via:

Mac Cundill Value Series A: http://tinyurl.com/gpvwz & Fidelity NorthStar Sr A: http://tinyurl.com/j6wcl

I have some Clarington Canadian Small Cap A: http://tinyurl.com/j9cc6 -- seems like lots of small cap potential in this market but I don't feel comfortable venturing very far into the small cap arena on my own without a better understanding of what I'm doing.

I also have some BMO Dividend: http://tinyurl.com/3vx62, though I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's down recently, so it might be a good time to take a look at it if you're interested in a dividend fund.

I'm by no means an expert, so please do your own research. Maybe this will get a conversation started if nothing else.

FYI, the Canadian Business Online forums have lots of info on Canadian investment stuff.

Best of luck and happy investing.

Thank you very much for your reply. Having read it I learned the most important lesson I could - I have VERY little knowledge of finance and investment. As such I have started reading the Canadian Business Online forums you recomended and started the process of opening an ING account (another excellent recomendation I learned here for where to park my $$ till I learn more).

I hope to come back here with a bit more knowledge some time in the near future so I can contribute as well as learn.
