Re: Online Poker In Asia: What\'s It\'s Status?
Seriously, if a large amount of Japanese people got serious about poker, we'd all be screwed. Have you ever played a video game you thought you were the best at with a Japanese kid? It makes me sad just to think about.

"howcome nobody has mentioned taiwan?"
I've never been to Taiwan so I don't know the situation there. All the other countries I mentioned in my first place I have actually played on Party Poker while I was there. |

About Korea, can they gamble online at all? It's still not clear to me, because different posters say different things.

Re: Online Poker In Asia: What\'s It\'s Status?
Right, so the Japanese with their ridiculous work-ethic are out. That leaves South-Korea (population: 50 million very wealthy people), Hong Kong (7 million even wealthier people), and hopefully China (population 1.4 billion, with maybe 20 million with western-style money, with that number rising fast).
Pokerspiv, do you know how strong the Chinese government's opposition to gambling is? |

http://news.777.com/2007-01/china-bu...gambling-cases They are deadly serious about shutting down any site that isn't owned by the government. They are however, investigating the potential of licensing operators in Macao (which basically give most of their profits to the Chinese government) to allow online gambling in China. The link above about legalization may explain why sites may be so quick to fold to the U.S. efforts. The carrot of a "clean slate" for Asia access may be well worth the stick of losing the U.S. player base.

[ QUOTE ] See here: http://news.com.com/2061-12572_3-6115701.html [/ QUOTE ] Thats why I bought shares in Gigamedia. They took a little bit of a hit Sept 30 like everybody else. Which was silly because they werent had hardly any exposure into the US Market. Taiwan could be also a big growth market. |

Re: Online Poker In Asia: What\'s It\'s Status?
China is DEFINTITELY a nation of card players from what I saw. Hopefully one of these days there will be a substantial middle class with money to blow and a semi-free government.
