Default What system of government do I live in?

I live in the US. I would like to know what system of government I am living in. And I don't mean the 'official' label for system of government. What I am looking for is the system(s) of government it most closely resembles in practice.

The american heritage dictionary is calling it a system of government in its defintion. I don't know if it is accurate to do so or not.

From what I can find, that's the only place that defines it that way. *shrug*

Either way, hmk's post is more of an AC hijack than an on topic post.
