Re: Weird Calldown
[ QUOTE ]
Looks fine to me. Check-raising flop has some merit but just calling him down is better, imo. Given your read on the guy, once you call the flop you have to call the river, folding to his river bet would've been pretty gross. Your hand being face up doesn't work against you in this instance. Kirk [/ QUOTE ] Well, if you're going to call him down anyway, you're determined to get the money in, so why not c/r the flop to make him pay if he's going to hit a (presumable) 6 outer? I agree, that as played the river is a call, but how much does the situation change if the turn or river is an ace? |

[/ QUOTE ] Because OP is not by any means determined to get the money in. Being willing to call down an over-aggro player and being determined to get it in are two very different things. The merit I see in c/r'ing flop is he may fold some slightly better hands like 77-TT plus we're obviously protecting our hand... however, we are really not looking for a ton of money to go in here so it's better to risk getting outdrawn as a -presumable- 3:1 favorite where if a scare card hits we simply get away than to get it in as an 11:1 dog. I would think that it's somewhat common sense. [ QUOTE ] I agree, that as played the river is a call, but how much does the situation change if the turn or river is an ace? [/ QUOTE ] Is this a level? If turn/river is an Ace it becomes an easy fold, K or Q would swing it to a fold as well. Kirk |

Re: Weird Calldown
He should know before he calls the flop bet whether or not he's going with the hand. If he's not going with the hand, the flop is where he should have folded. If he plans to fold the turn if villain bets again, then he has no business putting any money in on the flop. He should be calling because he believes he has the best hand. If he has the best hand, then he needs to put the most money possible in the pot.
Villain is a habitual squeezer right? So his range is wide enough that pushing there should be profitable. A lot of flops without a 6 are unfriendly to 66. This is about as good as it gets. If he didn't want to get in a spot like this, then maybe he should've folded preflop. |
