Default NL 1/2 Live Adjustments

This thread was posted on another board I frequent. Doing a search, some threads skirt around the subject, but I didn't find anything definitive that had everything in one place.

Here it is:

You're sending a average joe to the 1/2 NL tables at your local casino (vegas, tunica, etc) with 2 buyins. He knows the etiquette and basic structure of the game... but knows absolutely nothing about strategy. What 5 rules would you give him to follow that would send him into this game with a fighting chance.

Typical 1/2 NL table rules apply... let's assume the following:
• No max buyin... average stack is 300-400 bucks
• He has two $200 buyins
• Standard preflop raise is 5-10 bucks (raised 50-60% of the time)
• Typically 3-4 folks per flop
• 1-2 LAGS - 1-2 Solid players - Remaining players are decidedly average

Could you give him a fighting chance with just 5 rules to follow?

yes, buy in for the shortest stack possible. Strategy below works best for $50 buy in. This gives him 8 buys ins for the trip.

UTG - limp with top 6 hands looking to re-raise all in. if limped thru, bet pot with tp - 2 pair, looking to get all in as soon as possible. c/r all in with flush draw and overs, str8 draw with overs / top set.

Middle position, raise with tt+ ak+, Push all in on just about any flop.

Late Position. 3 bet all in with tt+/ AQ+. Raise with the above hands looking to get all in on most flops.

Rinse and reload. If he gets to 200+, have him take a break at the craps/bj table and come back in 1/2 hour when he can rebuy back for the minimum.
