Re: OMG the Hoosiers are going to a bowl!
hahaha...the typical IU response so far
yes, IU did get Eric Gordon to decommit from Illinois (well..he forgot that part) and commit to Indiana in a very malicious manner by hiring close family friends to numerous positions within the program...congrats! It appears the main reason Sampson was hired, despite his previous ethical shortcomings, was his potential to get Gordon. Whether that was a good choice for IU is something that remains to be determined. It's looking bad right now. |

As for Sampson, I don't think many IU students/alumni have been happy with coaching choices starting with the Firing of Knight (maybe that's just me, who knows). Hopefully Sampson get's what's coming to him, but the University did it's own inquiry into all this and turned it over to the NCAA, I can't see them getting hit hard here. Cody |

Re: OMG the Hoosiers are going to a bowl!
Motor City Bowl isn't exactly the highest profile nor is heading to Detroit in the winter the greatest of attractions. But at least it's close enough where a bunch of Hoosier fans can very realistically make the trip.
Since it's a night game they can even just make it a long day of driving up there and back if they wanted to. I know the Hoosiers are so excited about this that many would travel to the Champ Sports Bowl in Orlando or even the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio were they fortunate enough to have any shot at those. But I think they would be likely to have a higher turn-out in Detroit. I think another outside-outside shot would be the International Bowl or the Texas Bowl since Notre Dame won't be eligible and it's not quite 100% that the Big East will have enough teams to fill all their slots. |

Re: OMG the Hoosiers are going to a bowl!
Hey, Bob. I remember you saying in a post that you were the part-time sideline announcer for Miami's (OH) radio network while Hep was coaching there.
If you have any stories or comments about that guy (other than what you already posted) I would love to hear them. Also, Roethlisberger and Terry Hutchens recently came out with a book about Hoeppner. I didn't know if you had heard about it or would be interested in reading it. It can be found here: Hep remembered |

Re: OMG the Hoosiers are going to a bowl!
Yeah, me and my Dad would probably like it.
My Dad had golfed with Hep a few times and had a story of some handicap match-play tournament where my Dad won and Hep threw some big fit on the 17th hole when he missed a putt. I didn't do much of the sideline announcing in my stretch there but I knew Hep for quite awhile even before that. When Tim Rose was the head coach in 89 and then Randy Walker took over in 90 I was a student who shot the coach's film and traveled on the away games and defensive-coach Hep was pretty much the guy in charge of us camera-geeks. I think pretty much everyone I knew who knew him liked that guy a ton. And you certainly couldn't say the same thing for any of the other coaches with football or any other sport. For my gig shooting the coach's film....who cares about $6/hr and getting per-diem meal-money on the road? You mean I'm part of the team-travel for our games to MSU, LSU, etc? Sign me up!! My favorite Hep memory was being stuck on the 2nd bus of players lost somewhere in the middle of nowhere after a big loss at Central Michigan and Hep sitting in the front talking to the bus-driver and being all friendly to help the guy stay awake all the while looking REALLY intense and like he was about to strangle him with his own bare-hands for getting us so lost and so delayed. |
