Check/call river examples
Can someone give me some examples where a check/call on the river is the best move? Why (and when) do you do that? Is it because it saves you money when you are behind (otherwise your "valuebet" will be raised and then you are in trouble) and wins money when you are ahead (villain will fold on your valuebet), because it induces a bluff ?

Re: Check/call river examples
Because villain's calling range beats us but his betting range doesn't. Player dependent etc etc
That is as helpful as I can be right now, I'm sure someone else can do better. |

Re: Check/call river examples
Using it to induce a bluff from a draw is my most common use.

Re: Check/call river examples
Best time to do it is when the draws have missed to let villain bluff their missed draws, or when the villain is very bluff happy.

Re: Check/call river examples
I think its a matter of just "reverse engineering the hand".
Like the example, I don't think that the person who ended up with the flush draw is going to check the turn with a king, may check if he has something like AQhh, but probably would have folded AQ off on the flop. So its not likely he made broadway with it being suited. That being said hes likely to have a low flush draw/underpair, and a check call is going to be the most un-exploitable option. Hes not calling anything you beat when you bet the river, and he bets a lot of hands that missed. |
