Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
So I got a great deal to Memphis with flight and car to Tunica for next Fri to Mon from Site59. I called every poker room in Tunica with a poker room rate and nobody had any availability.
The Gold Strike room said that they didn't have any for Friday or Saturday. They showed a room online for Friday and Sunday. I went ahead and booked these (Friday was expensive!). What are the chances of the poker room adjusting it after I get there and play my hours? Also, for Saturday, I've booked a room at the Microtel. I wonder what the chances are of the Gold Strike having a last minute cancellation where they could put me in a room for saturday at the poker rate? |

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
My friends and I are going to be there from Wed-Sun. Tunica was booked very tight for this weekend for some reason. We wanted to stay at the Shoe, but they had not only no poker room rate rooms, but no rooms at all for Fri and Sat, and for Thu, wanted $419, which is just a complete joke. We ended up staying at GS, and getting the poker room rate. We booked about 6 weeks ago.
I've not heard of the Strike reducing rates later, but you never know. In your shoes, I would just stay at the Microtel if the Friday rate is anywhere near the ludicrous $419 Shoe rate, and not chance it. |

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
The newest rule for the poker rate at the Show (unless it's changed in the last month) is you're supposed to call at 9 am and ask for Anita (I think that was her name).
Last time I did that I left multiple messages with her. After a while I finally called the poker room and they told me Anita had called in sick a couple days in a row. Anyway one of the floor type peoples took care of me anyway. Give em a try that way |

5 hours play gets you $35 a night on the weekends, if you make your reservation through the poker room ahead of time, and lock up one of the precious rooms from poker's bloc of rooms in the hotel [/ QUOTE ] Also, that $35 rate just went up $5 or $10, I think. |

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
no idea why the shoe would be so pricey then.
FWIW - You can try calling the Sheraton also which is in that 3-casino lot all within walking-distance of each other. Sheraton's rooms are all jucuzzi suites and are fairly nice imo. Not bad if you have a sig-other with you. Too bad about the gold Strike room-rate going up. |

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
The rate I ended up book for Friday night was $164. The Microtel was $100 so it wasn't that much difference. It's worth it to be close by on Friday night since my brother is going with my wife and I and it's his first time.
When I called the Gold Strike, I got transferred to some extension about a poker room rate but kept getting voicemail. I then called back and I think I talked to a floor person. She wasn't very helpful though but said they didn't have any. I might try that extension again just in case. I might be play 10/20 at the Gold Strike and I saw where they were running that promotion that they would refund the hotel stay. From what I saw, it didn't say to book through the poker room, so I'll see. |

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
The other thing I wondered was since I have no history with the Gold Strike, if they would even let me book the rate to start with.

Re: Gold Strike Tunica & the Poker Rate
I busted out early, so there should be an extra poker rate slot available at the Grand for Sunday through Tuesday.
