I'd rather raise the flop, if he has AK then you need to make your move on the flop if you think he might fold, if he'll never fold AK it doesn't matter what you do. If you feel he'll only felt with KK if you do it in small chucks then this is fine.

I apologize for not explaining my thought process when I posted this hand. I was ina middle of a sesson and just wanted to get it out there though.

I [censored] hate min raises. 70% of the time they will have monsters, but the other 30% they will have trash. He is a donk, so I put him on 10s+.

Great flop for me obviously. He bets prety weak at it (less than 1/2 the pot), so I figure he has a hand lke KK or complete garbage. I don't think I can realistically put him on QQ or AA here, so at this point I'm going with the hand.

I decide to just smooth call the flop for the reasons I mentioned above, with the plan on leading the turn to make it look like I am bluffing with a draw or air. If I check the turn, he can just check behind, and a scary card may fall on the river and I will get no value from his KK or air. I bet pretty weak on the turn to make it look like I had nothing or a draw.

I would rather raise the flop as it puts him under pressure and looks weaker than the line you have chosen. For what its worth I think I like a fold preflop.

AQ performs terribly in this PF situation..

This is my biggest leak. Calling these minraises with hands like AJs, AQ... is that just not profitable in the long run?

I always feel lost preflop in spots like these. On one hand, you don't want to play a big pot with AQo out of position. On the other hand, if he steals often (as he should), your hand beats his range, and then you should 3-bet. On the third hand, you don't want to turn AQo into a bluff. On the fourth hand, you can't fold to this min-4-bet since you are getting great pot odds.

This always confuses me and i end up calling the initial raise and check-folding the flop a lot, thinking "there's gotta be a better line".

I suck at poker, so be skeptical of this:

preflop - I'd just call buttons initial raise, pot control! I fold to the reraise. Hate AQ in those spots.

flop - not convinced that this flop is so great, though its not terrible. With no reads or history, I'd say that theres a 10% chance hes on a total bluff, and a 90% chance hes on 1010-AA, or AK. And a significant part of that range just made a set. And theres two hearts... so I'd reraise flop to about 30 to price out the flush draw, and see what he does. If he's on 1010 or JJ then your reraise should scare him off. If he's on KK he might go all in or fold, if he has a set then its AI or a call. Tough spot.
