Re: Sufjan Stevens
Well, I'll bite although I'd like to see your thread starter have some actual content.
I don't think too highly of the pre-Illinois material, but I now have the highest of possible expectations for any future releases. I really don't tire of that album at all. It's likely the cream of what was the best year in music that I can recall. I should probably invest some time into The Avalanche. And I eagerly look forward to 2062 when he releases his Kentucky tribute. |

Re: Sufjan Stevens
The closest to Illinois last year was The Woods, but I digress. This one is somewhere in my top 3 along with OK Computer and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Re: Sufjan Stevens
OP,
I like him a lot. I've only listened to Illinois and Michigan, though, and I have a couple friends who claim 7 swans is the best. Anyway, some of his songs are truly incredible. However, I think he's a tad overrated. Illinois has some really weak songs, IMO. It could've been 10-15 minutes shorter. And his emotion comes off as a bit contrived to me. As for some of his compositions, they're different and fresh, so people tend to go "OMFG".. but really some of his flute/woodwind fills are overused. You know which ones I'm talking about. But I'm just raining on the parade. Most of his praise is much deserved. He's going to be very popular, so there will probably be plenty of more backlash in the years to come. As for cream de cream of '05, I'll take Andrew Bird's release. |
