Think of the sell price as selling a stock for $17 that you must buy back at a later time. If Phoenix wins it all, the stock goes to $100 and you lose $83 per share. If Phoenix does not win it all, the stock goes to $0 and you win $17 per share. So, in effect you are risking $83 to win $17, which is the same as a -488 line.

i generally think in terms of percentages, if i thought the suns had a %20 chance of winning the championship would this be a good bet for me? 10%? where is the turning point?

is it 20.48% or am i doing the math wrong?

on a -488 line you have to win 82.99% of the time to break even so if u thought the suns had a 20% chance of winning u would need -400 or better. No it is not a good bet.
