LFS,
Don't get me wrong, I don't think its a great song or anything. But I didn't develop the same disdain as you did. Thought maybe you could focus my hate for the song(Indigo Girls and Pink not withstanding).

I sure hope that she gets that guitar tuned up just right.

That's very bad, but not even close to Yoko Ono:

(prince's "dear mr. man" - all funk) + (midnight oil "beds are burning" - metaphor, figurative language, artistic value) + (humorless lesbians) + (opportunistic shift in song content) = this horrible abortion of a song

What's the big deal? I already bought the CD.

Would you like this song better if it was written during the Nixon Administration or the Warren G. Harding Administration???

seems like pretty standard bleeding heart gayness that they thought would make a thought-provoking song. i guess it makes me wish Pink still had a job doing the Sunday Night Football theme so this didn't get produced.

so, sure, pretty bad, but I think there can be worse.

LFS,

Were you a lonely boy? How do you walk with your head held high?

Pink is one of the worst "artists" out there. She isn't even good looking which makes her fame even more baffling/enraging.

Just to summarize all the badness:

The rhymes are trite. You can feel the next sentence coming, and can complete all the lyrics before she says them. They are that predictable and flat.

The music is vomit.

The premise is confusing. The song is titled "dear mister president" which implies a mailed letter, but then for the rest of it they are "taking a walk"

The questions asked in the song are meaningless. "how can you sleep while others cry?"
This is retarded. If the president is to blame for poverty and misery, then he is clearly evil and wouldn't have trouble sleeping. If he isn't to blame, then he shouldn't have trouble sleeping either.

"How can you walk with your head held high?" Same problem

"how do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye" Ibid.

"Were you a lonely boy?" Does this imply that lonely boys grow up to be evil? If not, then is pink just making small talk? That's inconsistent, insincere, and bizarre. It's a nonsequitur, but I know what it's getting at. Throwing in awful pop psychology is the trademark of people with 90 IQs who want to pepper their banter with smart/profound content. Blech

"lemme tell you 'bout hard work, minimum wage with a baby on the way"
Ok, I GUESS that's ALMOST a good lyrics...and then she changes the subject. Like TELL US ABOUT HARD WORK. "nahhhhhh, I'll just talk about something else instead cuz I'm pink and I don't know anything about hard work"

If you want a good political Album, check out NIN's year zero. I wrote a review of it

HERE

Basically, the song CAPITAL G is everything this Pink's fetid stillborn monstrosity should be, but can't be, because Pink is a mountebank whorebag.

More stuff from year zero that rules: The great destroyer

in this twilight

Meet your master

Wow. Pink is a [censored] simp. It's like the lyrics were written by a 7-year old. How moving.
