Cash Games At the Rio During the WSOP
What are the cash games like at the Rio during the WSOP? I heard they are booming especially for this year. Does anyone know what the limits / buyins are like? I'm trying to figure out an adequate bankroll for my trip.

Limits are small stakes to 30k stacks in a 25-50 PLO game. All you can eat baby.

Re: Cash Games At the Rio During the WSOP
I haven't played there yet but have heard from other players and dealers that they are maniacal.
They have a lot of tables so they'll spread whatever people want, it seems like. The usual limits are there, and I heard a call over the PA for 100-200 NL. Lots of different Omaha, etc. I would bring a lot. More than usual because of high variance. I was going to post a TR when I go back, but here's a tidbit. It's hard to deal with the level of donkish play at the cash games. If you raise pre-flop for say, 5x the big blind with AQ, you might get 5 callers. If you raise 10x, you might get none and win the blinds. So basically, you size it to let some people in and everyone calls. One example - guy raises 7x BB with pocket aces and gets called by 7-4 offsuit OOP. He check-calls every street until he rivers a gutshot straight. If you're not getting good cards, it's a tough go. |

Frustrating after the hand is done of course, but you should be licking your chops - the pots are gonna be juicy, the competition is soft. |

Why---
Risk---- Reward Over the year(yep there have been many) players that sit in hi variance games go broke, bust, rail etc. It may look JUICY as some say but the risk to reward has to be factored in. |

[/ QUOTE ] if you can't risk in games of that caliber, the style of games other players dream about, then you shouldn't be playing that limit. And if the game your talking about is something as low as 1/2nl - then you shouldn't be playing live poker - move down to 40nl online until you feel comfortable in that type of loose environment. The overwhelming profit comes from loose opponents, avoiding loose games at the limit you are rolled for is like saying you don't like money. |

Re: Cash Games At the Rio During the WSOP
I gotta disagree a little with the "if you can't throw dice at this limit, don't play it" philosophy. I know LOTS of people who absolutely hate to have a couple maniacs at the table. They just do not want to deal with $40 pre-flop raises in NL1/2 or $300 shoves after the flop over and over. That's completely understandable--the variance in that sorta game is huge as you're often pushing with 60:40 sorta edges. That's the kinda thing that can eat a bankroll. So I do completely understand people who aren't happy in those games.
I love 'em. I hunt for them. I don't want to play 10 hours a day like that 'cause raise+shove poker isn't all that much fun in my book after a few hours--it gets pretty old and I want to get back to playing normalish sorta games. But a few hours a couple times a week is groovy. |

Re: Cash Games At the Rio During the WSOP
Yeah, that sounds typical of my last visit to Vegas at the Ventian. You'd raise 8x the BB in the 2-5 game and get three or four callers. It varied on the ppl, I've played there and anything over 3x the blind would get little action.
