Vegas Trip, Poker Room Questions - help please
I am going Oct 28 - Nov 2 and will be staying at Harrahs. The reason for the trip is my dads company is part of the SEMA Show (convention for after market parts for cars). I was there 2 years ago for this same show and stayed at the MGM and didn't play anywhere other than MGM. This time i would like to try some other rooms. What rooms would be good for me. I currently play $25NL (6max) and am about to move up to $50 since i am 7.5BB/100 over 20k. Will i be able to handle $1/2NL or $2/5NL?
The rooms are booked, but is there anyway I can play the required poker hours to get a discount taken off of the room? Thanks. |

Re: Vegas Trip, Poker Room Questions - help please
AFAIK Harrahs has no poker rate.
1/2 nl is a total donkfest and I assume any winning online player can beat it. I would hasten to guess you can beat 2/5 too if your bank roll can handle it. |

Re: Vegas Trip, Poker Room Questions - help please
Harrahs, Imperial Palace, Mirage, Flamingo, Ballys, Venetian all within easy waking distance and all offer $1/$2 NL.
If you have any idea how to play you should be able to win. Compared to the internet, you will notice that people are happy to call pre-flop for a lot more money. "What the hell: its only 15 bucks." At 2/5, there are typically more solid players but there are still plenty of donks, you just need to find a hand or two against them. You will find 2/5 nearby at Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio, Caesars. I thought that Caesars was the toughest room to play in over-all, although I was only there for a week, so it could vary tremendously. I would say the softest 1/2 game was at Imperial Palace. |

[/ QUOTE ] That whole room is a donkfest, if I was the OP, I'd go downtown to Binions and play in the 1/2 NL game. Very soft game, and easy to win there (stay away from the limit games there though). Best part about Binions is that they have tourneys 4 times a day. The 2pm is the best IMO, followed by the 8PM and then the 10 am and finally the 2 am. tourney. |

[/ QUOTE ] 1/2 NL plays basically the same in any room on the strip, so why bother going all the way downtown? The main difference among strip rooms is maximum buy-in, which varies from $100 to $500 (most commonly $200-$300). My personal recommendation is the Venetian, next door to Harrah's. This is the plushest room on the strip and has outstanding drink service. IIRC, the 1/2 buy-in is $300. |

Re: Vegas Trip, Poker Room Questions - help please
Agree with other replies that you should be fine at 1/2NL or even 2/5 if you bankroll can handle it. Which means you have your choice of any poker room. Why not play at the big three? Belagio, Wynn, Venetian ... nicest rooms in Vegas. Wynn is my favourite, Belagio probably has the best selection, and Venetian is a nice, plush room. Yeah, the games might be slightly tougher there because the rooms tend to attract a more knowledgeable crowd - but they also attract a lot of tourists as well becasue they are well known and "class" rooms. Bottom line is - because you play NL, you can go anywhere and find a soft game. Not like us Limit players. Have fun.
