There have been democratic socialist gov'ts that havn;t demanded full state power over all the factors of production e.g the Labour party in Britain. edit: the "old" labour party that is. The 'New' Labour party "have sought to take a middle way between the more centralised socialist approach of past Labour governments and the free market approach of the Conservative government from 1979 to 1997" and have consequently proved historically unpopular. |

But you're right; the way you're using "socialist" is the way that it is popularly used, rather than the way it was historically used. |
