I think people are really underestimating Sammy Farha. He finished 2nd in the Main Event in 2003. Any acclomplished pro finishing that deep in such minefield pool is a huge feat. He built his empire playing poker since 1990. This isn't by chance or a run of luck.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeh, Sammy's 2nd place ME finish was all down to solid play, lol. Have you ever seen Greenstein's website?:

[ QUOTE ]
Eight hands before the end of Day 2 in 2003, I drew out on Sammy and he got up from the table. He thought he was busted, but he had 5,000 more than I had. (80,000 was average at that point.) He said, “I’m leaving. I can’t do anything with 5,000.” I said, “Sammy, sit down and take a shot.” Sammy went all-in in the dark on the next two hands and doubled up each time. Of the last eight hands played at our table that night, Sammy was all-in before the flop on seven of them. He ended the second day with 58,000. Of course, Sammy went on to become famous as he cashed out $1.3 million for his second place finish in the event.

"Poker players come in all shapes and sizes with many different styles. In pot-limit Omaha, Sammy Farha's style stands alone at the top of the mountain."

--Chip Reese, winner of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at the 2006 World Series of Poker and the player many consider to be the best high-stakes cash game player in the world

Oh, but Chip Reese is an even bigger fish than Sammy, so we can't believe what he says, right? I mean, Chip's selflessly devoted the last 30 years of his life in Vegas as a full-time donator whale.

From Brian's Blog:

+1.858M, my biggest win

Just finished playing a 18 hour session of 500/1000 and 1000/2000 NLH and PLO mix. I ended up 1.858 million dollars which beats my previous best day by 3x the amount. Over the last three days, I finished up 1.52 million dollars (I had forgotten that I spent 40K on the PLO w/rebuy tourney). The game started with Sammy and I playing HU which resulted in me starting out up about 1 million dollars. Then the game began to fill with Bobby Baldwin, David Benyamine, Patrik Antonious, Brandon Adams, Nenad Medic, Rafi Amit and a few others that aren't coming to me right now. For most of the day and evening it was David, Patrick, Sammy, Bobby and I playing.

I was very impressed with Bobby Baldwin's play. He hardly ever plays poker anymore since he manages the Bellagio but he was sitting playing 4 handed at the end of the night with me, Patrik, and Sammy. Bobby was definitely holding his own and I was extremely suprised with how well he played. Most famous poker players are not very good and overrated -- this was not the case with Bobby; he had a great sense of people. One hand I raised UTG in PLO he called on the button and Sammy called in the big blind. Flop came TT4 and we all checked turn came a 5 and it was checked through again. The river came an ace and it was checked to Bobby who said "Sammy your ten is good." Sammy then sheepishly turned over a ten.

I don't think the game is going to run anymore so I am probably going to head back to Santa Barbara either today or tomorrow. I really dislike it here in Vegas and can't wait to get back home. I have no plans or interest to play anymore events but may have to play a few more for business reasons.

Also 1K/2K NL/PLO is a huge game and when it got 4 handed at the end of the night with Patrik, Bobby, and Sammy we were straddling every hand making it a 1K/2K/4K structure. At that point Bobby had about 1.5 million in front of him I had about the same, Sammy had about 750K and Patrik had 400K. The game was so big it's amazing and the swings associated are massive. I was up 1.2 million, then down to +400K, then back up to 1.8 million. Usually when the Big Game runs there is a cap of ~50BB that any one person can put into the pot. This protects people from losing too much in one hand and encourages more action as well as some weaker players to sit. We played uncapped and this is probably one of the biggest games to ever run. I really like playing uncapped as it's much more challenging to have money to bet on all three streets.

I believe he was down 1.5-2million in 06 online, and hasn't played in 07

million+ downswings seem inevitable at the nosebleeds so the results don't necessarily mean he was a fish in the games

Chip was very bad at Omaha. He looked like a fresh hold 'em convert - happily reraising all-in with top pair top kicker. I guessed he was used to limit instead of PLO.

Aba thought his EV/variance ratio was higher when playing

and/or he doesn't need to flip to 'get respect'

[/ QUOTE ]

He thinks he's beating sammy for better than 1,000bb/100?

Obviously not. This flip offer was a gift.

[ QUOTE ]
only reason he turned it down is cuz he couldnt get more money to play with

[/ QUOTE ]

He's playing 1/2k NL heads up against someone who's most notable trait is that he's extremely loose and aggressive. 1.75 buy ins is a trivial swing. He's going to be subject to losses like that through normal play just as fast.

Greenstein seems like he's got alot of integrity, but would even he be above slightly stroking the ego of a wealthy donator?

From Brian's blog:

A short 1K/2K session
Just finished a two hour 1K/2K PLO/NLH mix game. It was three handed with David Benyamine and Johnny Chan. I won about 600K. I busted them on same hand when I flopped bottom set and a flush draw and was against a flush draw and wrap of Davids and a wrap of Johnny. With this win I made 2.15 million dollars in four sessions over five days.

I am really getting tired of Vegas. I was planning on leaving much sooner but then got caugh up in the big game. I don't expect the 1K/2K mix game to run for a few more weeks so I plan on spending some time in Santa Barbara.

Seems like he is on a real sick rush.

Hard to imagine that anyone could play for very long in Larry Flynt's game if you weren't prepared to do this.
