Timed Rake vs. Regular Rake (Ho-Chunk)

How much worse is a $4 every 1/2 hr. timed rake then a regular rake in a 2/4 limit holdem game? very significant, small, better? This is what they do @ Ho-Chunk's new poker room.

Two big bets an hour is a stiff rake. You need to be much better than the other players to make a profit, even if you don't toke the dealer. But it's no worse than some percentage rakes I have seen.

Isn't it understood that when you go play 2/4 limit live you're getting stiffed?

It's like turning stone's 1/3 7stud hi/lo or 1/3 o8.

I'd say it differently. If you're playing $2/$4 live, you're doing it for the entertainment, not to make a living. Two big bets an hour is hard to overcome in win rate, but $8 an hour is not bad for entertainment. Look at it from the house point of view, $80 per hour from a full table is probably not making anyone a millionaire, after you pay the overhead, dealer and other employees; and remember the tables aren't always full.

In a lively casino, the low limits tables can be easy money. You get guys who come in to the casino, drop $50 on blackjack, win $30 on craps, then sit down and drop $50 on poker in half an hour and leave without realizing it's any different from the casino games. Enough players like that feeding the game regularly can make the rake seem insignificant.
