Re: Vegas Trip Report - Mild Times and Low Stakes
If you get a poker rate at a place near the strip and Flamingo, it may not be much more than the el cheapo places and you have walking-distance access to half a dozen poker rooms with good cash games and a boatload of tournaments. Rental car not necessary.

Re: Vegas Trip Report - Mild Times and Low Stakes
[ QUOTE ]
there are way cooler places to play cards - low stakes, even - than those places. [/ QUOTE ] Believe it or not, to some of us, that doesn't matter much. How snazzy a poker room is is only one small factor that influences where I like to play. Here's an example: on a trip last month, I was playing low limit poker and had ground out about $150 in profit over 2 days, plus I had won another $300 for a high hand jackpot - so I was already having a profitable trip. I was intending to play at Venetian and Mirage on the 3rd day. On the way up the strip I stopped by IP around 2PM for an hour or so because I had enjoyed playing there 2 days earlier. I sat down at a 2/4 table with a nice group of very passive tourists and proceeded to stay there the rest of the afternoon and came back after dinner with my wife for another couple of hours for her 1st live casino poker session. Why would I do that, when I could have played at fancier places? Because the players at that table were pleasant people, the dealers were nice, and it was a comfortable place for us to spend our dwindling hours of vacation. Plus, the other players were mostly weak passive. I couldn't ask for better playing conditions for low limit poker. I tend to enjoy the unpretentious places with unpretentious people. Some of us don't need fancy schmancy surroundings to have a good time. |

Re: Vegas Trip Report - Mild Times and Low Stakes
Man. Wow. Never meant to offend anybody. And I apologized for my harsh remarks yesterday, and I'm not going to do it again.
Listen, all I'm saying is that playing at some places in Vegas - TI, IP, etc., places like those - aren't much different than playing at a local casino. There are so many options in Vegas, that I feel you miss out a little bit if you don't walk into the Wynn, Caesar's, Bellagio, Venetian, etc. There are plenty of low-stakes, easy-to-beat games at those casinos, too, but the atmosphere is just so memorable. Sorry if people are offended by these statements, but not taking a gander into one of these sweet casinos is like going to New York City and eating at a Subway every day and seeing a movie at a budget theater. Sure it's affordable and, sure, you still are going to have fun because you're on vacation. But you're kinda missing out on the big picture. |

Why didn't you just stay at the Orleans? It is cheap, clean and if you don't want a car they have a free shuttle that will drop you off at the Barbary Coast. You will also get a booklet with a bunch of coupons including a free lunch at the snack bar.
Orleans poker room is stale as you found out. |

[ QUOTE ] So much for playing lots of non-felony online poker during my trip. [/ QUOTE ] No, I didn't go to Vegas to play online poker. I went to play B&M poker, but hoped to spend some of the down time in my room playing a few games online. You know, like reading before bed. [/ QUOTE ] Online poker is expressly illegal in Nevada. |
