Re: A silly but serious question ? prop bet.
Whoever gets to put their body in front of the other and hit first base first, wins. Even though Frank is slow, and Reyes is fast, it's a lot to ask to overcome a 10 foot gap with just 90 feet to work with. I'd love to see this race, though.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Wouldn't it be far simpler to word the question this way?: Reyes starts at home plate; Thomas starts with a 10-foot lead off of first base. Which player gets around the bases and reaches home first? [/ QUOTE ] Yes it would, but it isn't even close to being the same question....?? [/ QUOTE ] It seems that one of us grossly misunderstands the question. I thought Reyes had to run 100 feet more than Thomas (not including "arc"). Amiright? [/ QUOTE ] Yes (90 feet actually), but the way you re-phrased the question above you had them both racing to home. Thomas' end point is 3rd, not home. |

[/ QUOTE ] When I framed this out I had envisioned Reyes beating Thomas to first, and woould agree that if he did not he could not win. Reyes has a couple of things going for him that give him an edge. He is lighter and faster, and he will clearly be able to accelerate to his top speed much quicker than Thomas will get to his top speed. I pictured Reyes starting out with a slightly wider arc than Thomas and then cutting in front of him at first base by about 5 to 10 feet. Let's face it, Reyes is more like a sprinter, so the 10 foot lead I gave Thomas will be cut in half about 1 second after the gun goes off, and by 40 feet they would be side-by-side. Imagine a standing start between an O-lineman and a Wide Reciever? Another thing is that Thomas is going to be slowing between 2nd and 3rd much more that Reyes will be from 3rd to home. Thomas is heavy and much older. I really think Reyes wins here. |

I'd rather see a race between David Wells and Yucko the Clown. Winner makes it to first base...
