Default Surviving Chemistry

I'm taking general chemistry for engineers at northeastern as a freshmen this year. Not only is the class a boring lecture, but it's chemistry (so naturally it sucks). This is by far my hardest class, any tips on surviving the year?

Is it too late to take a placement test to get out of it?

There's nothing magic to it. Just do the work. General chem isn't even that bad.

I thought it was the hardest class I had in college, so I feel your pain.

I ended up getting a tutor after making a C the first semester. In retrospect it could have just been the fact that the class was at 8:20 and I never went.

i reccomend sticking it out and keeping up with what ur supposed to be doing. if the prof is as bad as u say he is, read the chapter he will lecture on before going to class, ask questions, and work problems. there is usually a free tutoring service at most universities that you might want to take advantage of. plus general chem isnt that bad. if u ever have any questions, chem is my minor. feel free to PM me.

I'm a chem major and I helped out a few friends that were struggling with gen chem.

Nothing ground breaking here but what I would recommend is go to class and take good notes, I barely ever read the book and relied on my lecture notes. Before tests go through the back of the chapter and do the practice problems, at first look at your notes if you must. Once you can look at a certain type of problem, stoichiometry, redox etc and wiz through it without any assistance then move on to another type until you've covered the required material for the test.

Don't be afraid to go to your professor's office hours, if you really can't grasp a concept go ask them. Tutors are ok but I much prefer to get help from the professor.

This class is all about busy work, each type of problem has a specific method that you must take to solve it. Do a [censored] load of practice problems to drill the steps into your head and you should have no problem on tests.

I know how you feel, I struggled through physics while all the engineers coasted through it.
