I can see a few reasons why one would prefer a hooker over a bar chick-- guaranteed sex, some reasonable guarantee of quality of performance and cleanliness, no potential melodrama afterward, no BS, etc.

I think the reason why most people go to hookers is pretty obvious. there is a demand for sex and they are the lowest cost provider often. and not necessarily in terms of $ lowest cost but in terms of effort. wearing sweat pants, haven't worked out in weeks, have spinach in your teeth, and not interested in talking about your respective life stories with some girl?

I think the point most of the anti-prostitute crowd is missing is...You don't pay a hooker for sex, you pay her to leave afterwards. Sometimes you just want quality sex and not all the attendant baggage that comes along with banging a non-pro. This is why every type of guy does it, from celebrites and CEOs etc. You know you're gonna get what you want and you know you won't have to deal with anything else.
