Default More satisfying to be the best through hard work, or innate ability?

Wasn't sure where to post this, so please move it mods if you think there's a better forum for this.

If you are the best at something, you are rarely going to have something that doesnt involve both things you listed..

I don't disagree with that, but I feel that people who excel at something often like to attribute it to one more than the other.

So which one is more satisfying to believe?

It's most satisfying to be the best through sheer hard work and let people think you are naturally talented. Then when no one can come near your talent because they don't put in the hard work, you seem even more talented.

I've never been better then anybody because of hard work so I don't know what it would feel like. I am better then most people at a lot of things because of innate ability though and it feels really good whenever these things come into play.

cliff notes: I'm lazy

I'm hoping to hit it big with a winning lottery ticket so I vote random chance FTW.
