3 months in Australia would probably be a better plan because that's the longest you can stay without leaving. I would also suggest spending some time in New Zealand. I spent time in both and preferred NZ although the weather isn't quite as nice.

Actually the 4 months is intentionally made to make me leave. This way I get to have an excuse to go visit New Zealand or a country in Asia during that ime.

Will do.

Looking at weather.com makes me think I want to be out of Vancouver by October though. Going to redo the plans now.

That's gonna be a sick year for you man. I'm jealous.

How much stuff are you lugging around with you? In your Aug/Sept months, you're relocating every 1 or 2 weeks, are you living out of two bags?

I want it down to one backpacker's backpack, one laptop case, and one monitor bag.

I can get from San Jose -> Sydney -> Venice for about $2,100 on Cheap Tickets for the dates I need. The flights have 2 stops each (Los Angeles & Fiji for the first, Hong Kong & Zurich for the second) but they aren't unnecessarily long layovers.

The other option was to roundtrip back to the USA and then fly over to Venice. I'm going to have to nail these dates down, but I can't really see them changing. Hopefully, everything is still there when I try to book this in a week or so.

Also going to try to get more exact dates for everything so I can start booking it. Seems odd to think it is only 4 months until 2008 and I move to Australia. It also appears that this thread has involved into being more for me than anything else... hopefully when I finally post the details of everything someone might actually get something out of it though.

you should go to new zealand. it is my favorite place on earth and its not even close.to qualify that statement, i have been to 4 contents and several island nations in the south pacific. go their and buy a used van or car as soon as you arrive. 1000US will get a very reliable vehicle. then just bum around the country going from hostel to hostel (8us a night) as you please. i hitched all over both islands after my friends and i sold our 88 holden comodor...it was the time of my life and i would recommend you give it a shot if you need to. you will get to see the local culture from a different vantage point. the Maori people, community dynamic and culture is worth embracing and experiencing. if you decide to go this route let me know and i will give you all my favorite surf spots and hikes. this country changes people for the better and a one or two week trip is not nearly enough time.
i wanna come.can i come?jk kinda
