Re: Five Guys Burgers
They have two here in Charlottesville, VA (UVA). My take is that In-and-Out burgers are a little better, and both put other fast food restaurants to shame (I've also never waited more than 10 minutes).
The key to places like Five Guys and In-and-Out is that not only are they better than other fast food places, they're also better (burgerwise) than the dry and tasteless burgers you get in the large majority of sit down restaurants. With that being said, I'm sure most of us make better burgers on the grill at home than anywhere out. Of course, the enjoyment of greasy burgers increases exponentially the drunker you are and the later at night it is. Five Guys is good for that and even better in C'ville is the Gus burger, a crappy pattie with a fried egg on top from the White Spot. The best late night drunken food is a Philly cheesesteak (made within the city limits), but that might be a genetic preference from a philadelphian. |

Re: Five Guys Burgers
Five Guys.
Overrated? Yes. Still good? Yes. A little (OK, a lot) too greasy for my tastes, barring the rare grease yearning. Tasty, though. They have been growing like crazy the last 3 years, they are all over the northern VA area now, and other places as well. |

Re: Five Guys Burgers
tom,
having been to both multiple times i'd like to think i have a decent opinion. i think they each serve a different kind of burger. like you said, at five guys, you can get whatever you want on it and i usually get a huge amount of toppings. the end result tastes a lot different than the in-n-out burgers which in my mind are a little simpler and more of a standard burger. but i think in-n-out is a better burger and i would rather eat there than five guys. they are both amazing burgers though. |

Re: Five Guys Burgers
Anybody else think Five Guys is the gayest name for a franchise ever? "mmmm, i love the taste of five guys!"

Re: Five Guys Burgers
I went to the Five Guys here in Orlando Fl, it was a pretty good burger, I had to wait like 15 min for it, but overall a pretty good burger. I've been twice, both times it rated as pretty good.
I've only been to In-n-out once, a overall it was decent, but certainly didn't live up to all the hype I've heard. Of course, it's not fair to judge it given my sample size, just stating the facts. |
