Re: finding out your kid is not really your kid
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Everyone should just get the DNA test done at birth, regardless of how much they trust the mother. [/ QUOTE ] Yep the numbers are crazy, its something ~10% of "fathers" are not actually the father [/ QUOTE ] No way. It's a lot higher than that. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, i'm almost certain it is around 1 in 4, as far as for the US anyway. |

I think i read it in Sperm Wars, but all the anecdotal evidence i've been able to find has actually put the figure at roughly 10-20%

[/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I think i read it in Sperm Wars, but all the anecdotal evidence i've been able to find has actually put the figure at roughly 10-20% [/ QUOTE ] Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. eg. All of the people I know that got paternity tests wound up being the father. This proves nothing. The estimates from the article center around 10%, or 1 in 10, but apparently there have been few scientific studies on it. This number appears about right. It makes sense to think that 30% of men that order a test are not the father, since this subsample is likely made up of men who are dating known cheaters. The legal obligations of duped fathers are rather disturbing, especially in the case of a break-up. |

Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. [/ QUOTE ] I never said it was, just that i haven't been able to find a source worth linking too right now, only posts on messageboards. The figures in Sperm Wars are far from anecdotal, i just don't have the book to hand right now. |

Re: finding out your kid is not really your kid
that 10% figure is absurdly inflated. i don't have lexis access right now, but there are a number of journal articles refuting it. if you exclude adopted children and stepchildren, the number drops sharply. additionally, no one has ever properly run a study on the matter. all the date comes from other studies where sample bias is a huge issue.

Re: finding out your kid is not really your kid
In Trinidad there was a family
With much confusion as you will see It was a momma and a papa and a boy who was grown Wanted to marry a wife of his own Found a young girl suited him nice Went to his papa to ask his advice His papa said: "Son, I have to say no, That girl is your sister, but your momma don't know" A week went by and the summer came down Soon the best cook in the island he found He went to his papa to make a day His papa shook his head and to him he did say "You Can't marry that girl I have to say no That girl is your sister, but your momma don't know" He went to his momma and covered his head And told his momma what his papa had said His momma she laughed, she says: "Go man, go Your daddy ain't your daddy, but your daddy don't know |

what would you do if your wife told you that the kid youve been raising for the last five years was actually some other dude she banged while you were away on business. would you continue to raise the kid? [/ QUOTE ] this gives you a free ticket to bang numerous women at your leisure. your wife can't get upset! if she starts bitching, just say "remember that time when you [censored] a guy when i was away on business, had a kid, and lied to me who the father was for 5 years?" there is no comeback to that. |
