this has been shown, it is very obvious that the top online pros are the best cash game players in the world. Ivey is also up there with this as well as a few others.

In NL there is no doubt the online pros are the best. I'm not sure about high stakes H.O.R.S.E.

2. Many online specialists are juicy live. I don't know any who are capable of beating a big mixed game

Juicy in a 13 game rotation, or juicy in mainstream games that everyone actually has experience playing?

How come most Big Game players did not sit down in the 1K/2K NL-PLO game that ran for several days recently? By all the accounts we've been given, none of the supposed Big Game long-term winners (you, Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson, or even Phil Ivey... just to name a few) ever sat down in this game. I assume this was the biggest game running in Las Vegas at the time. So does this mean that you only feel you have a good edge if the game is live AND a mixed limit game rotation?

It seems as though that Big Game regulars are willing to admit (including you in the past, Barry) that their edge comes from a large number of games being in the rotation. So, a large majority of your edge comes from playing lesser known games that very few people have a good understanding of, because they simply haven't played these games. It helps create a shield for regulars in the game so outsiders get discouraged from stepping into the Big Game.

I don't feel that this is an objective way of measuring how good a poker player is. A large portion of the games in your mixed game rotation are games that are rarely spread anywhere else.

This live player vs. online player is beginning to sound like the rift between West Coast vs. East Coast rappers back in the 90's.

I'd say the online player is, on average, better but I don't think you'd see the best live players cower in fear - Ivey, Tuan Lee, John Phan, Hellmouth, and Greenstein.

I honestly doubt any of the best nlh players in the world (i.e., best online nlh players) can beat the mixed game rotation or even a simple horse rotation.

Eventually, they probably could. But put together some of the aspects of live play (it might be overrated, but there is some merit to "tellboxing" claims) and the fact that most online players are inexperienced in stud variations. I doubt there are many, if any, online players (excluding Antonius) who can just jump into the big game and dominate.

I guess that is the real question. Are the best players those who are among the top players of the most popular game, no limit holdem or is it instead players who master a lot of different games?
Or is it somewhere in between? Is it simply who makes the most money?

If I were to choose the best player my obvious choice would be Phil Ivey who whether it's live or online has beat every different game he has played in. From limit or nl holdem to horse, plo and omaha hi lo. Everything.

It's obviously not suprising that online players dominate nl but if you look at every other game it's actually mostly more or less well known live players who have been the most succesful (online). Plo is where this "battle" is fought mainly.
Now will that change over time? It could very well. We're seeing it in tournament poker, and I understand that's it's a small selective group playing these games anyway.

I honestly think all the top online players can eventually dominate the big game, if they decide to master all the games. I think this is something guys like aba and such should think about.

From reading his blog, he says he doesn't really like Vegas, so he'll probably stick to what he does best. I can't really blame him, nor anyone who sitcks to his/her best venue
