Default Re: Reverse Implies Odds

I thought reverse implied odds worked like this example:

-- You have A-7 suited heads up going to the flop.
-- Flop comes down with an Ace and two cards of your suit.
-- Opponent bets $40 into a pot of $70, making it a pot of $110, $40 to go.
-- You put opponent on a big ace that has you dominated at the moment.

In order to correctly price the call, the reverse implied odds principle tells you that if you go chasing the flush, you're going to have to pay off the turn bet that the opponent will make if you don't hit the third suited card, and if you hit the third suited card on the turn or river, you might not get any more money in the pot if the opponent believes you made your hand.

Implied odds tell you how much you'll be paid off after making your hand. Reverse implied odds tell you how much you'll have to pay to see if you make your hand.

Actually, I believe reverse implied odds are exactly in direct opposite relation to implied odds. I guess it depends on how you want to name things, but the AA example is right on.

You avoid reverse implied odds situations. As far as I know though, you do not fold AA preflop. Your opponent might have implied odds, but you do not have 'reverse implied odds'. That would be a stupid term to introduce. If I have AA on a KT7 2-tone flop, I may have been setted by 77, but I am certainly not in a reverse implied odds situation. Very often, I will be milking a K for value. On the other hand, in the 87s example I gave, I am never milking anything for value but I might get value-towned myself. That's reverse implied odds.

That's just vanilla pot odds lol.

if he has no hand, he'll stop putting money into the pot. But if he's ahead, he'll keep betting.
