Objective on resume
Does this objective need fixing?
With a desire to combine my skills in working with the public and my expertise with computers, I am seeking a customer service or public relations position in a hospital setting. |

Re: Objective on resume
I would just put "I am seeking a customer service or public relations position in a hospital setting."

Re: Objective on resume
You say "with" way too many times at the beginning... I can't make sense of it.
I would say something more along the lines of: To obtain a customer service or public relations position in a hospital setting, which will utilize my customer service and computer skills. |

Re: Objective on resume
IMHO the "Objective" on the resume' is pretty worthless. All an employer wants to see is whether you want full-time/part-time and short-term/long-term employment. (btw this was my opinion as a hirer, not an applicant)

[ QUOTE ]
customer service or public relations in a hospital setting. [/ QUOTE ] FYObjective On a resume you make everything as short as possible without being incomprehensible. If that looooong line was your "objective" statement, which isn't really even necessary, then the rest of your resume is probably in horrible shape. I'd get someone you know who's in HR to look at it, or maybe find some place that can take a look. It'll be worth your $50-100. |

Re: Objective on resume
One thing that really helped me was to realize that the primary goal of a resume is to get you an interview...not to get you the job outright.
With that in mind I would use your objective to make it sound like your goals line up with the position to which you are applying. If you are applying to a company without the a specific position in mind, then I would keep somehting like you have (subject to the recomendations to make it more concise). If you are applying to a specific position then I would use the objective to make it abundently clear that you are interested in that position. Keep in mind that the person reading your resume may be some random Human Resources type that knows little about what the actual job will require (this is espeacially true hospitals). |

Re: Objective on resume
my school's career services office had me take the objective out of a first draft of my resume. i got a bunch of interviews with it, so i guess it worked
my guess is that their advice stemmed from viewing a resume as an opportunity to do something wrong, as companies would be looking at many resumes for each opening, and looking for anything to fault to avoid interviewing someone. also, i think i remember them calling objectives pretty useless, as you should be saying the same thing, but more specifically, as part of a cover letter. |

Re: Objective on resume
Omit Objective, it's worthless and only serves to get you eliminated from consideration.
It's a resume, fill it with actual content. |

Re: Objective on resume
My Career Planning teacher (I'm in a 2-credit class right now, hahahahaha) says that the objective needs to be personalized to each company you send it to.
Thus, omit it. |
