Do you consider your preflop play standard or are you only doing it against this villian?

I consider my preflop line to be pretty standard. I got a good hand, but one that doesn't play great vs. a lot of opponents so by 3betting 1. I'll likely buy the button and 2. hopefully knock the blinds out and maybe one or both of the limpers and get HU. 3-betting will also increase my postflop FE on boards I don't hit, something I failed to take advantage of in the hand in question.

Obv if a rock raises in front of me, I'll probably not 3bet, but vs. most players in this game I routinely will.

Is my thinking sound about this preflop?

Only if most players in this game are pretty laggy. When a tag player raises PF after several limpers (or from early position), usually AQo is a dog to his range. Also, hoping to fold out the limpers is pretty optimistic (you said so yourself), so you are almost guaranteed to be playing 4-handed here.

If villain had raised first-in from MP than I think it's pretty standard.
