Can rental car companies track your whereabouts?
So I want to rent a car out of Calgary, but the rate details say "Travel out of the province is charged at such and such. Travel outside of Canada is not allowed."
I've seen this before on some of my rentals out of New York, but always would be inside the allowed states. So I realize I'd be [censored] if I got into an accident or something went wrong outside the allowed area, but if I drive to the states or elsewhere in Canada, do they actually track me via GPS or whatnot? |

Some do. There was a story about a company in upstate NY, I think, who has it in their contract that the car was tracked on GPS and if you sped they would fine you automatically. People who has used debit cards to rent would return to find their bank account completely drained. It ended up in court.
