The D70s is a very good camera. I'm saving up for either a D80 or D200, though. I like the larger viewfinder a lot. Also the gridlines for composition help and alignment help -- not sure if the D70s has that.

For potential Nikon buyers -- rumor is that a new Nikon will be introduced in March, and that that is what is prompting the price plunge on the D200. This is a great camera and has dropped from $1600-ish to sometimes $1200 or so in the last couple of months. This camera is weather-sealed and very fast, and if you can pony up anywhere near $1000, then the D200 deserves your very serious consideration for a couple hundred or so bucks more.

Are there any good online stores where you can buy Canon/Nikon cameras that ship internationally?

Canon and Nikons are sold in many countries at their local stores and those countries' online stores, too.

Some popular ones, though I don't know if they ship international, are b&hphotovideo, and buydig.com. Lots more come up if you go to any camera review at dpreview.com and look at the bottom for sponsors, etc.

I know this is out of your price range... but I recently bought a Nikon D200 w/ the Nikkor 18-200 VR lens (amazing). Highly recommended combo -- with batteries, memory cards, bag, B&W filter, etc, it cost over US$2500. I used it at the PCA in January and it performed great in low-light conditions.

Also, based off what I know at this point, I'd say don't skimp on the lens. The D50, D70 or D200 body will likely produce similar images in a lot of situations if you have that Nikkor 18-200 VR lens on it. Obviously the D200 is better, but you could live with the other bodies. On the other hand, getting the D200 body and a [censored] lens seems like a terrible option to me.

Yeah. Good glass can be handed down through the generations, but DSLR bodies go "out of date" in a few years.

[ QUOTE ]
Ken Rockwell at www.kenrockwell.com does a pretty good job of reviewing Nikon and Cannon stuff and basically says that Cannons are sharper when you are shooting on tripods and have time to get everything set just so on the camera, Nikons are easier to shoot with on the go.

[/ QUOTE ]

Rockwell is a Nikon guy. He only uses Canon when he reviews them. So it is understandable that he sometimes finds it difficult to accomplish some tasks on the Canon. A Canon user would say the exact same thing if he only used Nikons rarely.
