Vegas and Phoenix are not pleasant places in July and August.

neither is reno. I'd go to la, only reason to come to reno is cheap living expenses.

But Tahoe isn't bad =) and its not like living in Reno is nearly as cheap as it used to be either. Ugh.

Went to Reno this past weekend. There is a major bowling tournament being held there which I heard lasted like 5 months. I can not imagine this but apparently it is true.

Anyway, I hope the bowlers can bowl a lot better than they play poker. Great action at the El Dorado.

The USBC Nationals are being held in Reno this year. And yes it takes months for the tens of thousands of teams to all get their games in. I'll be there in mid June.I hope you're right about the bad pokering bowlers.

Ditto. I'm bowling at the end of May. Hoping to find a good 5/10 NL game while I'm there.

I play mostly at the Peppermill but the El Dorado has an unlimited buy in game also.

The Peppermill big NL game is 5/10 with $500 min buy in. That is the min most buy in for a couple grand.

The ElDorado is a 3/5 10 to go I belive. I am a limit player so not positive.

These games are without tournament action driving them.

The Nationals were here 2 years ago. I am convinced that you have not seen bad play until you play against the bowlers. They took every possible error to the maximum extreme.

Two of my favorite bowler strategies:

1) I see a guy to my left show down AA after check/calling all streets. I ask him why he didn't raise preflop. His response was something to the effect of "I never raise preflop. You don't know what you've got until you see a flop. I didn't bet later because that guy was betting." The board was rainbow, no straight possible.

2) This girl never raised, saw every flop, and called all bets to showdown if she had a pair or better. I saw her call a preflop cap and check/call down with 47o after hitting 4s on the flop. They didn't improve.

None of the other bowlers could really match these two, although you would see at least 5-6 make a yeoman effort to set the world record for donkitude on a nightly basis.

Sounds like poker players need to try to get the annual bowling tournaments to always be held in cities with legal poker. First there where dealers following the poker tournament circuit, now we could get low limit players following the bowling tournament circuit.

The bowlers were quite impressive in their poker play.

I was there a couple of weeks back for a weekend and played exclusively at the Peppermill. I love that casino. I am really frightened that they might update the look, based on their new expansion.

My only beef with the poker room was that it allowed/encouraged smoking basically on top of the tables. One idiot kept smoking cigars right on the rail and blowing the smoke over the tables. Other than that, it was good fun.

Anyway, the consistently spread 2/4, 3/6, 4/8 limit holdem games and 1/2 and 2/5 NL holdem. They did have a 5/10 NL game going once when I was there and some other mid limit game, I want to say 20/40, but it may have been a bit lower. Apparently on saturdays they run an omaha tourney which gets omaha cash games running.

For anyone going to reno, stay at the peppermill and get an upgrade (pay if you have to) for one of the suites. We paid around $220 and had a hot tub in the room, steam shower, couches, the whole 9. The food is consistently good and the lounges are stupid cool.

The only place I played was the Peppermill. The action seemed good with mostly small stacks--except for one monster $1400 stack one night
