you should just reply by saying "I eat Poo" and walking out of the bank. So they put the hold on it and it get deposited anyway. Same outcome

She is way out of line here right?? I could be wrong, but it's none of her business where my money is coming from. So I basically tell her to f off and put a hold on the check like I originally said. She still insisted on sticking her nose in my business and it really pissed me off. Even though I have plenty of money to cover, the nosy bitch says to the teller in a condescending tone "better be safe than sorry...put a hold on them". I feel like a criminal bringing these checks into that bank now. It's a small CU and I'm thinking to write a letter to the pres and let him know about this nosy bitch. What is the best way to approach this in the future?? I thought it would be easy and painless when I immediately told them to put a hold on it but it still proved to be a hassle.

[/ QUOTE ]
I would agree, it does sound like she was out of line, and normally a letter would be a fine idea. In this case though, what might happen? Pres decides to deal with it, has someone talk to the teller, teller explains about the strange looking check (oops almost spelled it cheque and confused the Americans), then maybe they look into it further. Who knows, maybe in the end this draws attention to these checks higher up in the bank, and they decide to stop taking them. I think you need to take the high road on this one to be safe. ATM sounds like a good option for future checks.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're probably right. She got me so fired up though, figured I should let someone know about her.

Drop them in the night deposit slot or the ATM. When they get them, they will think they "look funny" and put a hold on them. I usually get a notice in the mail the next day informing me of a 10 day hold.

The bank DOES have the right to refuse to accept them, but that rarely happens with any check. They just want time to make sure it clears.

Absolutely 100% correct. A bank has no oligation to accept deposits. Follow KittyLiquor's advice. (Don't use tellers)Don't write that ignorant (and attention-grabbing) letter.

Good luck in the future.

[/ QUOTE ]

"ignorant"?? lol

That bank teller is there to provide quality customer service to those who do their banking there. She's not there to grill customers about where their checks came from. That's why they have the hold process in the first place.

Tell them you do internet advertising. When pressed say you do a bunch of affiliate based advertising and then bs some stuff like how the country is overseas. When asked what you do say you look for sites without advertising with large user bases and convince them to use advertising. You can add more bs for flair if you wish. I did this and now the bank is trying to get me to open a business account for my company =p

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a good one. I would of just said website design if it came to it but I didn't think it was any of her business.

Just say it is from the Internet Porn business. I would say the same if they question Epassporte. They would just get weird and feel dumb for asking and accept your deposit.

I am Canadian and I went to the bank with a sketchy Chex Inc one from Sphene the ones pokerstars mails. The teller starts giving me the 30 question rundown I just pulled out another debit card to another bank and said will I wont be coming back. She shut up and processed the check.

I work for a brokerage firm and any time we receive a funny looking check, Cashier's check, or Bank Check we get an explanation why. As long as the person requesting it is polite I see no issue with it. The fact is, recent anti-terrorism laws passed to discourage money laundering require financial institutions to cover their own ass & employees are trained to look for this stuff. If they don't don't, they face fines, penalties, firing, etc.

It sounds like the Customer Service rep handled it poorly and the OP gave some shady answer or looked guilty of something.

They're just worried someone from Nigeria etc. is trying to rip you off....or rip the bank off.

No need to make a big deal about, just tell them it's an internet business, when they ask what sort, say it's for advertising on your site something along those lines.

The whole payroll vs. non payroll is due to their "hold period"...payroll checks have a historical VERY LOW bouncing %...where as non payroll unique checks have a historical moderate to high % of bouncing...so payroll checks rarely get put on hold while other funny looking ones frequently get put on hold.

I'm pretty sure the president of the bank would laugh at you (not in your face of course) if you wrote a letter describing the situation you were in...it's SUPER STANDARD and tellers are told to be "nosey" (my mom was one for 22 years)
