NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
I was just reading gambling911 and I came across the comment, "So-called "sharp bettors" traditionally bet the money line."
Is that true? If so, why would there be any more value on the moneyline? |

Re: NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
I don't know why, but I remember reading on the wizardofodds site a while back that dogs traditionally do better on the moneyline than against the spread. From what I remember, the wizard didn't weigh in on moneyline favorites. If you poke around the site a little bit you might be able to find the article, although I do know that a fair amount of the sportsbetting info on the site has been taken down for some reason.

Re: NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
I would think that squares betting the moneyline are almost always betting the dog, creating value on the favorite moneyline. But that's just a guess and it's not even really a complete answer.

Re: NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
line shopping on nfl moneylines is a bitch. i'd say on 90% of the non small spread games pinny has the best ML for both sides. that is not a good thing. but i am no expert on MLs

Re: NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
I can't remember the exact figure, but seems like 80-90% of NFL games are decided by outright winner, and the spread is not needed. For this reason, you are better off getting the +payout from the dog and the lesser -line for the fav covering the spread.
Note: I am saying this just as Dallas-Seattle was a spread win ML loss on Dallas (I bought @ +3). I would be interested in being confirmed or denied on this, as this is just my supposition. |

Re: NFL Spread versus the Moneyline
BTW-
SIA had Colts -295 up until gametime when it was -315 up to max -330 @ Pinny, so shopping really does help. |

[/ QUOTE ] No. [ QUOTE ] If so, why would there be any more value on the moneyline? [/ QUOTE ] Depending on the bet, sometimes there is more value on the moneyline, sometimes there is more value betting the side. Often times the moneyline and side move in lock step. Sometimes they don't. When they don't, sharp bettors will realize where the value is and make the appropriate bet. |
