Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The Red Sox definitely needed to win more tonight, because tonight's game was where the matchups were most in their favor. [/ QUOTE ] i actually think this was a pretty good matchup for the rockies on paper tonight. i don't think we are more of a favorite in game 1 with beckett than we are with dice k versus whomever in game 3 simply because francis is usually waaaayyyy better than whoever that guy is. but whatever, gg sox [/ QUOTE ] Well, I think the argument is that playing in Coors field will favor the Rockies a bit more than the average "home field advantage," between the Sox having to give up Ortiz or Youk (most likely, at least) and having Manny playing in a massive left field. Of course, the way that Holliday was fielding his position tonight, maybe that advantage isn't as big as people may have figured. Edit: And yeah, gg Sox. |

Home from the Little Bar in LA, drunk and grunching.
How'd that taste, Rockies fans? Hope it whet your appetite, because more servings are on their way. BOOOYAH |

Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*
Could we all please stop calling for Beckett in Game Four?
Think about it: if you do that, you need Shilling and Dice to pitch on short rest, as well. Is that what you want? This Lester kid ain't bad. Did you forget that? (Also, another 1-2-3 inning from my man Gagne. I'm not joking when I say that I hope they don't dump him this off-season.) |

I think they go by the prior two seasons. Gagne has been pretty good over the entire 2007 season and he pitched two innings in 2006. |

[/ QUOTE ] Not necessarily true. Schilling in 2 & 6, Dice in game 3, Lester in 5. In the 2001 WS Schilling started games 1, 4, and 7, Randy Johnson 2 & 6, Brian Anderson 3, and Miguel Batista 5. Not the thread for this, but I'd like to hear one of the baseball experts chime in on the chance of a horse like Beckett pitching at 100% on three day's rest, i.e. is it worth the chance. Beckett, Schilling, and Jack Morris all did it in recent WS, of course it was really common way back in the day but I guess the wear & tear is much greater now. |
