B&M 5/10 games out here in AC don't play that much better than 1/2 games online, and I've played and dealt quite a fair amount of each of them.

[/ QUOTE ]

How did you deal in a 1/2 online game?? and where can I get that job?

and imo live multi tablers waiting for position and AA, would not do well in live games as the gamblers in these games would not give action to nits

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow the level of hatred.

My observation is that the nit is more likely to get action live than online, however since he's churning through fewer hands and his opponents are giving way more action post-flop, the nit is giving up way too much by folding so many profitable spots pre-flop.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly you simply dont get enough hands to play a super nitty style, and players are more observant live and even the terrible donkeys do notice if some1 is playing super tight and begin to fold more to them. I wasnt being nasty, its just i mainly play live and have noticed on a number of occasion some online players struggling with the lack of hands and playing badly as a result.

I think something not considered by most is the difference in the influences of live and on-line play.

Namely, I'm speaking of stats. The best on-line players are very good at knowing and making use of the tendancies of their opponents. They do this primarily through stats.

In a live game, player tendancies are important as well. The difference is, the source of knowing these tendancies lie in observation and recollection. Online, the source of knowing these tendancies is data management.

You have to remember the casinos have a lot of walk-ins from the pit games. A guy sees a little on TV, and buys in. Some of these guys have no problem burning through 5k playing blackjack and find they like poker better.

Online poker is so inconvenient for casual players like that now, at least a lot of them. You've got .25/.50 players online that have read 10 books and have 300k+ hands nowadays, it's almost silly. Maybe outside of the US the poker skill level is weaker now, I don't know, but the NL200 games online are certainly comparable to the 2/5 and 5/10 games I've been around.

You can toss the 10x rule though, that's pretty silly.

thanks for the reply Gonso...a quality contribution to the thread

This question always ignores the fact that its much tougher for you to play live due to the boredom factor.

This is probably the 87,000th time the live vs. online debate has been done to death on these forums. There is no "right" answer and no way to "prove" which is tougher. The skill sets overlap but they are not identical.

It is like the difference between Stud and HE. Some are better than one or the other. Few are expert at both.

If tighter = more skilled, than obviously, online players are more skilled.

well, i think online players only play tighter out of necessity...if your 6 or 8-tabling, playing 19/15 is a lot easier then playing 32/20

though I do agree (although i have v. limited live experience) that it is a different game, but to say that online multitablers are just robots that rely on software is a stretch. I find it hard to believe that a winning online player who plays 10s of thousands of hands a month couldn't make the necessary adjustments in a live game at the same stakes.

i started playing live, and then started playing online less than a year ago...and i'm pretty sure im a million times better now than i was before

kind of, but from my own experience stats can be somewhat deceptive...two people with identical vpip and pf raise can play completely different styles...

and people can and do switch up their game from time to time, plus if you play a long session with someone and develop some history, the metagame/psychology part of the game becomes very important
