Like all the labor Zionists of her generation, she was a very commited socialist. Unfortunately, a quarter lifetime living on Kibbutz Revadim left her and her husband (both educated professionals) frustrated and disillusioned with the system. Today, the Israeli Kibbutzim which still succeed (there are very few) are becoming increasingly privatized. BTW, this next sentence goes beyond the Kibbutz issue: While I am generally a realist, and am a very committed Zionist, there is nonetheless something sad about admitting to ourselves that the militant, Jabotinsky-ist wing of Zionism won out. I like Miami lots. As cliche as it sounds, everybody here really does have a story to tell.
