Only if I can work for cash so I pay no taxes, get free healthcare if I get hurt or sick, and bang the native hotties.

You should probably post that letter to the US Senator where the author wants to renounce his citizenship so he too can pay no taxes, carry no insurance, drive without a license, etc.

I freely admit that I'm not very educated about Mexico, but isn't this exaggerating a little bit? I'm sure that most Mexicans have a lot more difficult conditions than they would in America, but the "only have plumbing in tourist areas" thing isn't something I've ever heard before.

[/ QUOTE ]

Areas outside of the cities are like this. Especially Mayan areas and little towns. many people do have plumbing but its not american style by any stretch. A large number of the illegals that run across (as opposed to flying or paying there way) come from small rural towns where they live in what you and I would call a "shack"

I had some guys that worked for me that were from Puebla a colonial town south of Mexico City. There was one of them that spoke decent english etc. The other guys always told me that he was a good guy but didn't understand them and wasn't the same as them because he came from a "rich family"
I traveled to Mexico with them and stayed at the "rich" guys guys house. It was like an old south farm house with adobe and wood construction no air conditioning and dirt floor in one of the main rooms. They had plumbing but water came from a cistern etc. and this was the richest guy in the neighborhood.

What is the main argument against immigration, anyways? I always assumed it was population saturation but i'm not sure there's any evidence that such would occur.

Also, what sort of confirmation process did the Irish, Italian and German immigrants from the early 20th century have to go through?

Nah, I was just answering the question as posted. Obviously he is talking about Mexicans coming to the US, but I was just answering in a general non country specific way.

If I lived in a country that really sucked, bordered by a great country, I would want to work off the books, get free healthcare, and bang thier hotties. Nothing wrong with that is there?

I'm all about efficiency so I just wait until the wealthy nation invades my current country.

Another hypothetical-

You are starving, and will die if you don't eat. Also, your family is starving. The only source of food is your neighbors house. You go and steal a loaf of bread.

Therefore stealing is moral.

[/ QUOTE ]

Under those conditions? Yes, of course.

Finally, I hypothetical that's not about AC.

Ok, you live in a very poor nation. Your family can barely pay the bills to live their very meager lifestyle which consists of work, then returning to their shack that is unlikely to even have plumbing (unless you live in a tourist area of course).

You know that a wealthy nation borders your very poor nation. There you can very easily find a job that pays much more the job you have now. You could work, send a lot of your money home and still be able to get by in an "effeciency apartment". You could also help get the rest of your family over to this new great country.

This sounds like a dream come true, but there are a few drawbacks. For one, it's illegal since you were born on the other side of an arbitrary line. Also, some people that are a different skin color are always going to look down on you since you were born in a different country, have a different color of skin, and you were not educated enough to become fluent in their precious language. But, you'll lead a much better lifestyle doing honest work and you'll no longer be scared of your children starving to death.

So, do you try to get into the wealthy nation and live a better life? Why or why not?

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course you try and get in the 'wealthier' country--their government's leaders and their rules concerning borders are not moral authorities; so long as you voluntarily deal with invidiuals within that border, I see nothing at all wrong with this.

I don't think that deciding to steal in this situation would commit one to the position that 'stealing is moral'. I tend to think that stealing in such a situation is what one should do (after all, there is a family to feed), but the circumstances certainly wouldn't void the neighbors' right to compensation, and I think anyone who steals in this situation should make every effort to pay back what they have taken.
