[/ QUOTE ] the Feynman books are great also zanny are some of the Erdos biographies... but those are biographies and not memoirs... "A Prime Man" is a good one, i think A memoir that really impressed me is called, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." It's written by a 43 year old who suffered a massive stroke and became permanently paralyzed, in a way known as the "locked-in syndrome." He dictated his memoir by blinking only his left eye. The book was published 2 days before his death.
