graphicscard replacement question
hi,
i am going to replace my old fx 5200 geforce graphicscard with a xfx 7900 gs. so far i have been advised to uninstall my old graphics drivers and install the standard vga driver (i use win xp home) when trying to update my driver and looking for the standard vga driver, however,i cant find it in the optional driver list.there are only nvidia and asus drivers there(motherboard: asus p4pe-x/te). how would you guys go on to install my new graphicscard. i tend to start up in vga mode, uninstall old drivers, shut down.then put in the new card and start up in vga mode again and then install the new drivers.should this work this way??? thx for your help asteroid |

Re: graphicscard replacement question
If those are both nVidia cards, which I think is the case, just swap them. They both use the same drivers.

Re: graphicscard replacement question
The reason to remove the old drivers is to avoid conflicts when you install the new card. However, most people don't do it like that. XP is a lot better at plug and play than it used to be, so those conflicts are relly minimized now. So yeah, just swap them out. However in the future if you install two very disimilar cards, then follow your normal procedure.
