Default Monoploy: Luck or Skill?

Just trying to get an idea of what other's opinions are of the luck:skill ratio in Monopoly. For simplicity, whatever % you don't think is luck, call it skill.

Also, would your answer be different in a 2 player game? 4? 6?

once the competitive basics are understood, this game is largely decided by luck. especially so with common house rules like free parking payouts. there are EV charts out there that analyze landing frequencies and such, so i guess some of the answer depends on whether or not a person thinks that memorizing hotspots is a skill. i don't.

with more players, those with later turn order are going to be a lot more likely to get boned by landing on properties that were purchased on the first turn by their opponents.

There is a lot of skill in the game (when played by the real rules), but your phrasing is akin to asking for the amount of skill v luck in a single hour of poker.

I think most the skill comes from knowing the real value of property (quick, which are the best properties in the game? If you said the Stjames/Tenn/NY IMO you're right, if you said PP/Bwalk, you're way off).

people here are overestimating the luck factor. See "The Monopoly Omnibus" by Gyles Brandreth for a detailed explanation on the things involved in Monopoly.

The standard 4-player is luck to start followed by great skill in negotiation and development, and acquiring the best portfolio. 2 player is more luck unless the opponent is a crap negotiator.

6 players is just silly.

if you land on a property and dont buy it, it goes into an auction. players bid on the property to ensure it gets sold to someone. a player could land on boardwalk, choose to not pay 400 to buy it. then it goes to auction, and that player could end up paying 2k for it.

[/ QUOTE ]There are tons of House rules. A common one is putting income tax, luxury tax, etc, into the center to be won by landing on free parking. Another is $400 for landing on Go. Etc

[/ QUOTE ]Can you elaborate on "great skill?" IMO late game stuff is pretty basic and instinctive. Unless of course I'm not thinking about it deep enough.
