The major problem with this tho is that people will be facing a very difficult decision of whether or not to keep the money or take the seat...$12,000 cash is alot for some people especially the younger players like myself for a chance to enter "a lottery"

Im pretty sure there's a large set of people who will use every flimsly pretext they can think of to play in the WSOP, it's the "anyone can play in the biggest event" mentality.

Is there a link to the satellite restriction bit? And what prevents previous places from having satellites that effectively sign you up with the cash equivalent?

I think a lot fewer people will be playing online sattelites. How is Full Tilt going to market these? People are attracted by the idea of investing $1 to win a seat to the biggest tournament in the world. There isn't as much allure to winning $12,000 which you COULD (if you wanted to) use to enter the WSOP.

For people who will never play in the WSOP like me, I'm happy about it. The fewer internet qualifiers there are, the more enjoyable it is to watch on TV.

Lets say 1 out of 10 people who receive the cash equivalent of a WSOP ME buy-in decide to take the money and do something else with it besides use it to play in the ME. That still leaves the '07 ME with nearly 8000 players.

Make it 20% -- which I think is highly unlikely -- and you still have in the neighborhood of 7,000 players.

The ME will be fine and the field sizes will still be north of 5,000 for many years to come.

My predicition would be around 3000. And Hellmuth is going to place around 12 and matasow is going to win.
