Matt's sentiments are seconded. We need to firm this up by like Monday. It's almost October. It'll take a week or two for all the slackers to get checks in the mail to MEbenhoe. Another to set up the draft date/time, etc. The NBA starts on October 30, we ideally need to have the draft done by the 20th.

In the meantime, I am more than happy to answer any other questions people have regarding the rules, etc. The more questions and more prepared people are, the better.

Please explain how the salaries are determined in the initial draft.

Do you play against multiple teams each week?

Which site/source/method do you use to determine position eligibility?

The salaries are slotted by draft spot. I know Clark was working on this, not sure if he has the final slotting figured out yet though.

Yes, it averages out to about 4 teams a week. This is really the only way to make our schedule 82 games and still have time for playoffs.

This one I'm unsure about. We use CBS software, but I know some of our position eligibility in the other league differs from CBS.

I second this. Though the timing is unfortunate, the following weekend (oct 27th) is about the only time I can get back east to visit friends and fam. I'll be in either NY or Boston most likely. During the week, however, I'll be at my folks house so will have time for email correspondence and tying up odds and ends before opening day.

Yes, this is the jist. I'm still tweaking and discussing with the commish from the other league. There were some definite long term issues with the initial draft and we are discussing how best to work the slotting. The key issue is that because the "natural" spot for most teams ends up being about 30% over the cap, a huge number of initial draft players end up being too good a value long term. We are discussing how to deal with this without forcing everyone to start out way over the cap (right now, including the initial rookie draft, the average is like $71.0, which is $5.0 over the cap.) Should have something finalized in the next day or two.

Yeah, this way it mirrors the NBA season. It also helps reduce variance by increasing sample size. You end up playing your division rivals like 8/20 weeks, conference rivals 6/20 and the other conference like 4/20.

CBS is the default, but some of their positions are absurd. Matt, the other commish and I will discuss and a full position list will distributed in advance of the draft so everyone knows who is playing what position before the draft.

On an annual basis, there's a process for changing the following year's eligibility. So, for example, LaMarcus Aldridge will be a center this year, and next year if he's playing mostly PF, he'll be on a list that gets evaluated at the end of the year for the following year.
