I get my money back, the kid gets a life lesson that will hopefully straighten him out from a family that cares for him. Better this (if it's got to be) than something that lands him in jail later on.

I ended up calling my brother and telling him the story and to my surprise he took it calmly telling me that they'd already been having the same problem with the kid and he was going over to his ex's house to confront his son.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, this is a little effed up on your brother's part. Especially if he knows you go to casinos and are likely to have large amounts of cash. It's just courtesy to give you a heads up, in your own home.

Trust that your brother (in-law?)'s care for his son is strong er than whatever has gotten him wound up and speak with him frankly about it. Even if he is angered with the difficulty of what to do, or angered by his own ownership in the situation, and projects it onto you. Behind it all, it's for your nephew's benefit. You said it, "I probably should."

[/ QUOTE ]

Not too bad, it only cost you another ~$600 or so to get up the balls to talk to his father when your gut told you that you should originally... For his birthday, give him a payment coupon book for the missing amount spread out over the next few years and let him know that his shame can be let go of if he cleans it up... if you care about him enough to be tough on him.

HB,

"Since my brother doesn't have money to burn they have purchased a plane ticket for 2 weeks from now"

Huh? That part confused me.
