Re: Comments on stud hand requested.
My question is what the hell are you doing on fifth street? Jamming the river can't be that far wrong.

I meant to check raise on fifth street, but had a misfire with the mouse.

Re: Comments on stud hand requested.
This is not "fancy play syndrome". There are easily conceivable situations where you might be better off playing this a bit more trickily.
It's debatable if the C/R on 5th is best or if you played it fine with a check/call. Bet might have been best here, then be tricky by just calling if he RRs. I'm thinking you lost at least one bet on 5th. A case can be made that the check/call on 5th rather than a C/R (which is a huge red flag that slows anyone down) is what got you so many bets on 7th, however, bet 5th would've been best IMO as it doesn't give up much information since you already had a tempo by leading on 4th and would've put just that much more $ in the pot, presuming you believed your opponent would've called it. In the long run, unsophisticated, ABC play might be the +EV in this situation, however, I think your decision is ultimately opponent dependent. There are opponents where a C/R would be best, there are a few bad opponents where your play would be most appropriate, but overall, I think that betting 5th was the best play. Run it to the nuts on 7th with your boat. |

Re: Comments on stud hand requested.
Thank you for the comments and analysis.
I am not sure what is so FPS about going for a check raise on fifth here. I suspect being overly critical, and bragging about how many world series events you are playing in makes you feel good about yourself. Specifically, I was wondering if his raise on the river should have signalled full house, and if I should have just called. As it turned out, he filled up on the river. In hindsight, I thought I should have figured it out and just called. It sounds like the consensus is the other bet is justified. Thanks again to those who are willing to take the time and provide constructive criticism. |

Re: Comments on stud hand requested.
Speaking for myself, whether I capped 7th or not would've depended on the opponent. Usually, with a boat, I lean strongly towards capping in most all circumstances barring higher open trips, higher paired door, 4 to a straight flush, etc. If he has a boat, he is well, well concealed and that just becomes one of those "nothing you can do about it" moments like flopping set over set or a high flush versus a nut flush in NLHE.
A donk who goes berserk with a high 2P or trips, the multiple bets were justified. If the guy is pretty solid, then I guess the river was a call, but it isn't like you can be blamed for betting heavily there. Regarding FPS- Don't worry about any snide comments regarding that. Some players are ABC and cannot conceive advanced plays, even when they are entirely warranted. One day, they might understand that poker becomes less about "mathematical probability" when the chips are moving than it is during the postmortem discussions. Let me guess... His boat was 9's and Kings?? |

Let me guess... His boat was 9's and Kings?? [/ QUOTE ] Smells more like a heart flush with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] among the hole cards. EDIT: or not. |
