HR 2046 Help

I'm not a terribly good writer and I was wondering if anyone on the boards could come up with a form letter/email to send to our representatives? I'll probably add a few more lines here and there to personalize the letter. I think a form letter would be good for the forums so that others can quickly get involved. Maybe sticky the document? Also, if I am to call my representative, what should I say?

Yesterday, Representative Frank of Massachusetts introduced H.R. 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007. This act would legalize and regulate internet gambling at the Federal level. I urge you to not only support, but co-sponsor this resolution as Rep. Frank introduces this to committee.

I'm a Software Services Manager with a leading software company and after a long day at work, I enjoy playing a little poker on occasion. I prefer playing in the comfort of my own home with my wife at my side rather than driving long hours to Buffalo, Detroit or Atlantic City to play in a smoky casino. Poker is an enjoyable game of skill, much as golfing or fishing. In fact, poker is one of the great American pastimes. Presidents, generals, Supreme Court Justices, members of Congress and average Americans have enjoyed the game for more than 150 years. It’s an honorable game.

Co-sponsoring Rep. Frank's resolution would help to bring Poker out from a murky legal stance and bring clarity to the government's position on the game - a game which most members of Congress play regularly! It would also allow the government to regulate providing sites to protect U. S. players and collect tax revenues from the operators, tax revenues that can go a long way in funding necessary programs like Veteran's benefits and Walter Reed Hospital.

This resolution would show the current administration that Congress is first and foremost tasked with protecting the rights of the people of the United States, something that the administration is seemingly directly opposed to.

I hope that you will take the time to consider H.R. 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007, and hope that you will help Rep. Frank make this a reality by co-sponsoring the bill.

This act would legalize and regulate internet gambling at the Federal level. I urge you to not only support, but co-sponsor this resolution as Rep. Frank introduces this to committee.

As someone who enjoys playing Texas hold'em on the internet, I feel my personal rights and freedoms were infringed upon when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed in October last year.

The European Union has already begun licensing and taxing internet gambling. The U.S. is missing out on an estimated $3 billion a year in tax revenue.

One of the main concerns I have when I play poker online, is the possibility that I could be playing against minors. Legalizing and regulating internet gambling is the best way to prevent minors from accessing gambling websites. Congressman Frank's bill would set rules in place to make sure that a licensee would not be allowed to accept bets from anyone under 18.

I urge you to stand up for the conservative values of individual rights and smaller federal government, and repeal the UIGEA.

I did a minor edit on your letter and sent it along. I also emailed it, as well as the links for contact info along to about 100 people that I know email addys for. I plan to send some snail mail letters next week. Its time for a major push.

I am writing to urge you to support HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007, introduced this past week by Representative Frank of Massachusetts.

I was appalled last year when Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Not only do I find the UIGEA an affront to my personal freedoms, but I also feel the way the UIGEA was passed - literally in the eleventh hour and attached to the "must move" Port Security Bill - to be underhanded and unfair.

I see HR 2046 to be a responsible way for congress to correct the mistakes they made with the UIGEA. It calls for a licensing program that will ensure safeguards are in place to prevent underage and compulsive gambling as well as taking steps to prevent money laundering and fraud while generating much needed tax revenue for our federal and state governments.

Please lend your support to HR 2046, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act of 2007, and help Representative Frank repair the mistakes of the UIGEA.

This should not be included in any letter to a member of the House of Representatives. The Senate approved the bill at the last minute, not the House of Representatives.
