Default homemade alcohol?

Last night I watched a show on prisons and they used apples to make their own alcohol in the jail.

I decided to google this because I'm kinda interested in this process. However, I'm a googletard.

If someone wants to give me a link to fermenting fruit into alcohol (I think they used bread too), that would be awesome.

Also, stories about homemade alcohol could certainly be posted here.

Should get started on making some pruno!! Will come in very handy if you go to jail and work in the kitchen.

In college we made "wine" in 5 gallon buckets using grape juice and yeast. (May have been a few other things in there.) The buckets were hooked up via rubber tubing to two liter soda bottles half full of water to allow gas release as fermentation occured. We let them sit and ferment for about two weeks. The red grape juice turned out alright, the white grape juice bucket was DISGUSTING. I cannot say what the actual alcohol content was. Looking back on it I wish we had taken the time to figure that out.

In highschool I tried to use bread yeast and grape juice to make wine, and it turned out tasting horrible. Now I brew a fair amount of beer, and have fermented a few different wines/ciders that most of which have turned out pretty good. I don't know if I'd ever be able to drink the toilet booze in prison though.

i made a few batches of very tasty beer a few years back. homebrewing is something i'd love to get back into someday. the only thing that ever turned out really horrible was a batch of cider that ended up smelling like ketchup at the end of the process.

Homebrewing is not hard.

I've been doing it for 10+ years.

Go to your local library and get some books. $200 should get you started with decent equipment and the ingredients for the first 1-2 batches.

It's a blast and a lifelong hobby.

Apparently you can make pretty decent wine out of the Welch's frozen grape juice concentrate. Check out one of the forums at www.brewboard.com and search for info there.

OP,

Search Modern Drunkard Magazine's archives for a pretty interesting and funny article on prison hooch. Even has a recipe, if I remember right.
