The next breed of FPS is "Crysis". Look it up, find a gameplay trailer if you can (I know there are some out there, just too lazy right now to link). From the creators of Far Cry.

I smallerized this pic a bit but you get the point -- this is looking pretty [censored] crazy.

The top picture of the landscape looks equally realistic. No question.

It'll be pretty ridiculous. And supposedly top-notch AI, better than we've really seen before.

Yeah, looks amazing. And I bet it only costs a couple of grand or so to upgrade your machine so you can play it.

Maybe. Most games can be played on low settings on average computers, though. If you want high, it'll be your typical 2GB ram, 7600+ videocard, and a decent processor. I wouldn't say that's a few thousand. Besides, anyone who gets a cmoputer these days is out of their mind to get less than 2 GB ram.

Which kind of makes the whole "check out how amazing this looks" point moot.

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 lately and it's pretty fun. You can control four (sometimes five) characters at once and since you have complete control over the pause feature you can basically simulate the Baldur's Gate games pretty well. The graphics are very impressive, especially the spell effects, and the campaign moves along at a decent pace.

I don't know much about it's multiplayer piece, but I imagine there'll be lots of player made mods circulating once the game has been out a bit longer.

In terms of FPS you should get STALKER; pretty fun game with some minor roleplaying aspects, and you can pick it up for thirty bucks now which is nice.
